Three-dimensional holographic disks.

We describe optical disks that store data holographically in three dimensions by using either angle multiplexing or wavelength multiplexing. Data are stored and retrieved in parallel blocks or pages, and each page consists of approximately 10(6) bits. The storage capacity of such disks is derived as a function of disk thickness, pixel size, page size, and scanning parameters. The optimum storag...

Fixed three-dimensional holographic images.

Three-dimensional holograms were recorded in a cerium-doped, strontium barium niobate (SBN:75) photorefractive crystal. These holograms are shown to not degrade after more than one week of continuous readout and to reconstruct reproductions of the original object with an observable field of view of approximately 35 degrees.

Three-dimensional holographic ring traps

We describe a class of diffractive optical elements intended for use in holographic optical trapping systems that project ring-like optical traps. Unlike optical vortex traps, which carry orbital angular momentum, these ring-like traps implement a force-free one-dimensional potential energy well for micrometer scale objects. Also unlike most optical vortices or ring-like Bessel beams, these rin...

Three-dimensional holographic fluorescence microscopy.

Most commonly used methods for three-dimensional (3D) fluorescence microscopy make use of sectioning techniques that require that the object be physically scanned in a series of two-dimensional (2D) sections along the z axis. The main drawback in these approaches is the need for these sequential 2D scans. An alternative approach to fluorescence imaging in three dimensions has been developed tha...

Holographic Three-Dimensional Computer-Aided Imaging

Recent developments in a new method of holographic computer-aided imaging are reviewed. The proposed hologram is computed from angular viewpoints of the observed three-dimensional scene. The recorded data are processed to yield a two-dimensional computer-generated hologram. When this hologram is illuminated properly, a threedimensional image of the scene is reconstructed.
